Hello! I had an idea for a genealogy class... if only we can find someone to teach it!  How about a class specializing on reasearch for the state of Virginia. Being as old as it is, and missing so many records it's quite a challenge.

Or if there are enough people interested maybe we could form a "Virginia Interest Group", like the Illinois Group?

Virginia-

Count me on board, even if it's just a casual group.  Virginia is my favorite and most difficult state...probably because I'm looking for pre-colonial records and it's where a lot of courthouses were destroyed.

I know a couple of people with expertise who could get us rolling and then we could figure out if there's "Interest Group" interest.

another idea for a class would be the value of periodicals used on research. How to find them, how to search them. the Sahyun has a comprehensive collection of periodicals that I'm sure hold a wealth of information.

Virginia, I would be interested in a Virginia interest group.  My Virginia ancestor was in Culpeper & Spotsylvania counties.  Eventually his descendents went to Kentucky.  Names:  Rausch later Rouse.

jraffety: Were you aware that the focus of my research for the past 10 years has been my RAUSCH family? Just a few months ago I discovered that they went from Saxony to Poland and then to US. They didn't change their name - it's still RAUSCH - but I'm always checking out those Rouse's thinking one of them might give me a clue! Maybe we are cousins!

I should have written that when I was signed in as DianeS. Also, I have family from Virginia, too - I think an interest group on Virginia is a great idea!

I've traced one line back to Shenandoah Co, and then I'm stuck.

I bet a lot of people can trace some ancestor through Virginia, as old as it is. Another idea I had is a one-day seminar, maybe through Adult Ed.

Here's a site I came across that you Virginia researchers might find useful.
